I CAN WE CAN

by A Window Between Worlds

Oct 2012-Oct 2013

Los Angeles, CA

I CAN WE CAN is a socially engaged art project created by A WINDOW BETWEEN WORLDS to strengthen, connect and expand the community united to end domestic violence and sexual assault. This ongoing participatory art project has engaged over 10,000 participants throughout Los Angeles and from as far away as Iran and Australia. Each I CAN is a beginning of a journey, a catalyst for reflection and transformation.

The first phase included an art exhibition that was curated based on the process of the project at Gallery Neuartig in San Pedro in April 2012. The second phase of ICWC started in October 2013 Domestic Violence Awareness Month, when collaborating artists S.A. Bachman and Neda Moridpour of LOUDER THAN WORDS created a projection onto 3 building sites in LA County with the intent to broadcast the I CAN WE CAN initiative to spark dialog, community participation, and solidarity.

With leadership from the Center for the Pacific Asian Family, Rainbow Services, and WomenShelter of Long Beach, the project includes text and resources in 8 languages.
